Moving to the former protestant chapel
from year 2006 until year 2012
Formerly installed in the old guard house since 1974, the museum was closed during five years until the CMR Ex-Cadet Foundation manages it in 2003. Now situated in the former protestant chapel, the museum offers the possibility to admire many artefacts witnessing the military presence in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. The museum narrates the history of this patrimonial site occupied since 1666 by different garrisons, a shipyard and a military college. Subjects maps, models, videos and historical objects will bring you back in time to discover an important location in the Canadian military history. The CMR Ex-Cadet Foundation is managing the museum and hired guides to relive with you more than 325 years (1666-1995) of military history of the old CMR de St-Jean site. They will provide guided tours of the original structure presenting the 19th century military architecture while relating the life of the soldiers who lived in the fortifications located on the Richelieu River. The site is enhanced by the magnificent display of the flora and centennial trees. |
« For the future of our past » This activity, patron by General Dallaire, is used to finance activities of the museums. Indeed, the funds raised at this event are donated to the fundraising campaign "For the future of our past" conducted jointly by the Fort Saint-Jean Museum and the Haut-Richelieu Museum, to help the two institutions to continue their missions of preservation and enhancement of the heritage of the region. Lieutenant-General Roméo A. Dallaire (retired) is the honorary chairman of this campaign. |
